Counsic Brothers




Vyankappa Kaushik (1890-1988) learned photography in the early 20th century in Bangalore, India. In 1919 he moved to Bombay where he became a press and commercial photographer. During the course of his work he took photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and other participants of India's independence movement. Together with his brother he established "Counsic Brothers" as a household name for photography in Bombay. Lateron they became the official photographers of the Royal Western Indian Turf Club in Bombay as well as the family photoghraphers of the Maharaja of Gwalior.
