I like Krishnadas idea of staying with you. But I don't want him to leave Wardha when he has begun some work and that work is still incomplete. I think discipline demands that he should stay there till he finishes that work. That which is dear to us may not be honourable to us. About Almora, you may ask Jamnalalji or Mathuradas. It may be wound up or keep the decision pending. People will deep on talking all sorts of things about such activities. We need not grow nervous on that account. You need not worry as long as you put into practice all your thoughts. We need not cherish evil thoughts. Then there is no cause for disappointment. |

Discussion re: the nature of wordly life- compared to a tree whose branches extend from top to the bottom. The soul should reach such a world from where it need not return to this world. The sensory organs try to entice man, but man has to extricate himself from their clutches. Shri Krishna says that he is the cause of everything in this world. Only God is indestructible. [Note : Gandhiji has a addressed a few words to Narandas to know from him whether women would be able to follow the explanation. If necessary, he would try to make it simpler further sometime later. |

Gandhiji says that Pushpa found leisure to write to him after a long time. For the delay on her part, Gandhiji would like catch her by the nose. It was Friday 8 p.m. at the time Gandhiji wrote this. So he wanted to know from Pushpa whether she really felt herself being caught by her nose. He asks her to improve her handwriting still. He wants to know how far did she progress in Gita. |

God speaks through man and not through books. Gita is no history in its real sense. Again in those days war war no taboo and even non violent people killed animals for food What it teaches is renunciation and doing ones duty without caring for consequences if a relative has to be killed as duty it may be done without compunction. The inner meaning provides solution of fight between good and evil in one self Thanks for the offer of books. |

We may not knowingly take part in the wrong doing but Once you are involved in such a situation there is no escape. When the whole surroundings is untruthful deserting it is the only resort. We do not wind up the Ashram though there exists untruth. We tolerate our colleagues and strive to pull on. Do You know the new method of spinning by Takli ? |

Gandhiji wrote for the week an article under the caption of "Death" the friend". It is about the last speech of socrates : The words he uttered just before he drank the cup of hemlock, which he was given because he had been sentenced to death. Socrates says that injustice can never be done to a good man whether in this world or the other world. He had no ill will towards those who complained against him or those who sentenced him to death. But socrates said to them that they should give similar judgment for those in future who adopt his path. |

I am writing about the reminiscences of Imam Saheb. His real name was Abdulkadar Bawazir. - went to South Africa for trading by about the same time I went there: His father, a priest at Bombay. Not much scholastic education ; knew Arabic fairly well; knew Gujarati, Konkani, English, French. - Had two wives- First met him in 1903.- Great confidence in himself. He had helped me in founding the Phoenix Farm- came to stay in the Farm worked actively- went to jail several times. An ideal prisoner. Returned to India with me for he decided to stay with me. Hence the decision. |

The first notice from the Government was received on Thursday. I met the Collector at his request. Discussion regarding the labour problem. The Collector enquired whether I was involved in political activities. I told him that my main work was the the Charakha Sangh. The Collector said that he had heard that I was involved in other activities also. I said as long as my involvement in the work of Charakha Sangh would protect the interests of the labourers involved in that work, I would keep away from the other work. The Collector asked me to give it in writing about the policy of the Charakha Sangh. I told him I would not do it only to escape from punishment. I also told him that he is free to take any action against me as per law, if he deems fit. News regarding release of Jamnalalji on the next day. Jamnalal sent a letter through Shri Jajuji to hand over the charge of Charakha Sangh to him (Jajuji). In that Jamnalalji has stated that we should go on doing work and not to bother about what people say about us. |

John Ruskin was a great writer, teacher and great philosopher. Died about 1880. - used to write monthly letters addressed to workers since 1871. Another book in four volumes about Ruskin's thoughts. The thoughts are similar to the ones which we put into practice at the Ashram. A day might come when somebody would be able to write rich Gujarati just as Ruskin wrote rich English. |

Gandhiji discusses his experience with "Magan Charakha" and also the one prepared by Prabhudas. Gandhiji was suffering from pain in his left elbow. Even then, he could continue spinning and he hoped to regain his original speed gradually. Gandhiji discuss about the nature of God. God is given different names but "Truth" or "Satya" is the one which explains fully the nature of God. Call it by any other name e.f. "Rama". If we keep on reciting the name after understanding its full meaning, then it must yield you fruit. Gandhiji refers to the death of Gangadevi, wife of Totaramji. She kept her cool till the end, reciting the name of "Rama". She asked all others to keep calm and not to be perturbed in the least. Totaramji also kept his cool and bore the loss patiently. Gangadevi brought credit to the Ashram. (Ref. to Sardar, Mahadev, Kakasaheb and Narahari.) |

The seeker of truth goes on seeking truth even when he grows old. Old age is no bar for him in his search of truth. In 1922 jail years, Shankarlal was with me. I did not cultivate the habit of viewing the sky. in 1930-31 also I could not do it. Now, I got interested in it. Our earth is a speek in the Universe. Earth is surrounded by sky(or space). Our body, a smaller speek. But even then, it is valuable because, it helps you in search of truth. We should try to know more and more about celestial objects. |
